Loving Life and Seeing Good Days
I Peter 3:10 – 11 says, “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.”
This passage is pretty clear. Do you want to love life? Do you want to see good days?
1. Refrain your tongue from evil [bad or incorrect speech]
2. Refrain lips from guile [treacherous or deceptive speech]
3. Eschew evil [keep away or turn away from evil]
4. Do good [beneficial, generous]
5. Seek peace [freedom from worry]
6. Ensue [strive to it] peace
The tongue is small yet powerful and capable of causing death. A deceptive person does so to accomplish his own pleasure, which he deems inappropriate for him to have. He knows from the beginning that his goal is something that should not be attained, hence treacherous and deceitful speech is used to attain the end. As a result of this, it is no wonder he cannot love life TRULY. He may enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season, but in reality deceitfulness produces insecurity within that person. Remember, “The wicked flee when no man pursueth…”
I would venture to say that “guile” is used as much by saved people as it is by those who do not know the LORD. God’s Word teaches us that our tongue must not be used in this way. Strive to be completely honest. Live your days as though Christ were truly with you every moment of each day. Be a man or woman of character.
