The Heart of the Gospel

The book entitled Knowing God by J.I. Packer is a must read!  He continues to challenge my thoughts about the Great God Whom we serve.  I just completed the chapter entitled The Heart of the Gospel.  In it Packer points out the fact that Christ’s substitutionary [Christ died in our place] is the propitiation [payment for sin and the pacifying of the wrath of God thereby].  Packer sites John Murray who says: “The doctrine of propitiation is precisely this: That God loved the objects of His wrath so much that He gave His own Son to the end that He by His blood should make provision for the removal of His wrath”   [Packer, Knowing God, p. 185]
